If you like your romance with sparks flying, then Getting Lucky by Carolyn Brown is one for you. The story has Julie Donavan, a teacher with a young daughter, relocating to Saint Jo, Texas, to get away from the rumors and innuendos of being a single mother of an illegitimate daughter in a small southern town. On her first day at work, she gets a huge shock – she sees the man who fathered her child during a drunken, one-night stand. Turns out he has absolutely no memory of her. And that really makes her angry…

On top of that, this man – Griffin Luckadeau – has a daughter in Julie’s class. A daughter with the same white forelock in her black hair as Julie’s daughter. How dare he deny that he knows Julie? It’s obvious that he’s the father of her daughter since that white streak is a genetic trait of the Luckadeau family. And, as chance would have it (or is it fate?), Julie’s property borders Griffin’s ranch. While Julie wants nothing to do with these people, the Luckadeau family is convinced that Julie is out to get something from them, that she’s going to want some of their money for her daughter.

Overcoming the prejudices and misconceptions of local townspeople and Luckadeau relatives is going to be tough – that was the whole reason Julie left her old town in the first place. But Julie is a fighter and she’s determined that she is not going to be run off this time. Interestingly enough, once Julie and Griffin actually get a chance to get to know one another, it looks like they might actually have a change at a relationship – if they can learn to trust each other that is.

An entertaining story starring two strong personalities who think they know what they want, only to learn that you don’t always get what you want – you get what you need. Getting Lucky is a truly delightful read. I highly recommend it for romance book fans.
