Title: Destined for an Early Grave: Night Huntress, #4
Author: Jeaniene Frost
Destined for an Early Grave is a fantastic addition to the Night Huntress series from author Jeaniene Frost. I must say, after the few sugary vampire romances I had been reading of late, this one took me by surprise. Even though it had been a while since the last book in the Night Huntress series, Frost lost no time in sucking me into the action packed romance. Yes, romance is a key part of the series but the lovers’ turmoil you come across in this series is never bad. Most issues that the couple faces seems authentic and very realistic.
Here’s a brief overview of the book:
“Half-vampire Cat’s deadly dreams leave her in grave danger.
Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they’ve fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it’s time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She’s having visions of a vampire named Gregor who’s more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn’t know about.
Gregor believes Cat is his and he won’t stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor’s hold over her. She’ll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she’s ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.”
Bones continues to be possessive, protective, and as sexy as ever! Frost’s writing is witty as always and will have you laughing out loud. Even the usually scary characters take on a silly twist in this one endearing them even more. I couldn’t help but praise Frost’s excellent writing style and imagination as the story progressed and the connections seemed to develop.
I simply loved following the characters of Destined for an Early Grave. I have both my thumbs up for this one!
Here’s a funny little excerpt:
“Then you remember the dream,” Mencheres stated. “That bodes ill.”
The fear of that made my reply snappy. “Hey, Walks Like an Egyptian, how about for once you drop the formal stuff and talk like you live in the twenty-first century?”
“The shit’s gonna splatter, start buggin, yo,” Mencheres responded instantly.
Title: Lover Avenged: Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7
Author: J.R. Ward
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Lover Avenged is the seventh novel in the Black Dagger Brotherhood paranormal romance series from author J. R. Ward. In this installment Ward delivers yet another highly intoxicating story. If you are new to the series, I’d suggest you start with the first book in the series (Dark Lover.) Ward has weaved an increasingly complex plotline – juggling with several stories at a time – making the book a little tricky to follow if you don’t know the background.
Here’s a brief overview of the book:
“The brothers are back-the latest installment in J. R. Ward’s sizzling #1New York Times bestselling series.
J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood novels have introduced readers to a “different, creative, dark, violent, and flat-out amazing” (All About Romance)world. Now, as the vampire warriors defend their race against their slayers, one male’s loyalty to the Brotherhood will be tested-and his dangerous mixed blood revealed…
Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood-even though his sister is married to a member, for he harbors a deadly secret that could make him a huge liability in their war against the lessers. As plots within and outside of the Brotherhood threaten to reveal the truth about Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in his darkening world, Ehlena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him-and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.”
Not only is Ward a fantastic story teller but she also has an imagination that can keep you reading late into the night. Her stories are quite unpredictable and take you by surprise. It’s as if her characters have come alive and are dictating their own stories! Although the earlier novels placed great emphasis on the romance between the central characters, the later ones are driven more by the fantasy elements of the Black Dagger Brotherhood world.
Rehvenge the protagonist has been described as a drug-lord, a pimp, a sociopath and an impotent so far but with Lover Avenged, you see a totally different side to Rehv. And oddly, Rehv actually makes a fantastic romantic hero. You get a good look into Rehv’s back story and as Ward unmasks Rehv’s character you can’t help but empathize with his situation. We find out that Rehv is a victim of blackmail. The way he handles his sympathy side and his reasons for yielding to the blackmail only makes him even more lovable! I would recommend Lover Avenged by J. R. Ward in a heart beat!

Ridley’s debut is an enticing marriage of Regency romance and murder mystery. After a mysterious death occurs in Blackberry Manor, Evangeline uses her gift to unearth the true culprit. Evangeline, a young yet determined heroine, is the true star of the novel as she allows herself to love while making serious plans for her future. For despite Allison Fletcher’s determined distrust, the smooth-talking tough guy was getting under her skin, and that was too close for comfort.
Night Moves — Some people had skeletons in their closets; Maggie Fitzgerald had one in her yard. She’d retreated from her fast-paced life, seeking peace and solitude.
